Grill The PERFECT Grass-Fed Hamburger (Step #4)
Cooking Times: Place the patties on the hottest part of the grill. For patties about 3/4" thick, place them on the grill for about (2) minutes. For 1" thick patties you can add a minute or so to that time. This will result in a doneness of Rare. For Medium-Rare, add 30-seconds to those times so 2½ to 3½ minutes per side.
For Medium to Medium-well, slide the patties to the coolest part of the grill, close the lid, and wait an additional 2-3 minutes on that last side. For Well, 4-5 minutes.
While these patties are cooking do NOT touch, poke, press them, or walk away - just wait. I will always set a timer when I am cooking these patties as just an accidental 30-seconds too long will take them to the next degree of doneness.
I always shoot for a burger, steak, or beef brat that has a doneness factor of Medium with a tendency to err on the rarer side than the well side. If you don't like a 'pink' inside, the next step ensure a moist, juicy Medium-ish cooked Grass-Fed Burger that you can be proud of.
