What is “A.S.H. Free” or “No A.S.H.”?
The three components of the ASH debate are the use of antibiotics, steroids and hormones in livestock, and the connection these have to the overall health of animals and humans. This has become a national debate with concerns that the overuse of antibiotics, in both people and livestock, has led to antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections and diseases. A similar controversy involves the use of added hormones and steroids to increase an animal’s muscle and weight to maximum monetary gain.
